What’s happening
🍄 Just last week, we were talking about the opening of a new psychedelic church with a ministry centered around healing with the use of psilocybin mushrooms. Days after Soul Tribes International Ministries graced the cover of Detroit Metro Times, the new church found itself raided by the Detroit Police Department. The “sacrament center” that sold dried mushrooms was the target of the police raid, according to the search warrant. Although the church says the sacraments were a part of their ministry and healing, the warrant said it is an illegal dispensary and police ordered it to close. (Metro Times)
💄 Since 2019, The Lip Bar’s flagship store has been nestled in downtown’s Parker’s Alley, behind Shinola Hotel. The maker of Gretchen Whitmer’s favorite lipstick announced they will close that store to move to a larger storefront on Woodward. Earlier this month, the brand’s products started being sold at 3,300 CVS stores. The Lip Bar is also sold in Target and Walmart stores. (Glossy, The Lip Bar on TikTok and Instagram)
👻 Spooky season is here, and a new pop-up bar is on theme. Nightmare on Bagley is a pop-up from InLaws Hospitality, the company behind Johnny Noodle King, Yellow Light and Green Dot Stables. It features Halloween-inspired food and drinks like the Peaches & Scream and the Bloodrita. The owner is no stranger to themed pop-ups, having hosted Vixen’s on Bagley for Valentine’s Day and Blitzens on Bagley for the winter holiday. (Detroit Free Press)
