Outlier Media is excited to welcome three editorial staff members over the next few weeks!

Alex Washington will join our newsroom as audience and engagement manager. Alex has made a name for herself through her Detroit-centric reporting and writing and her strong voice and reach on and off the internet. Most recently, she was the digital content editor at Detroit Metro Times. Alex will help us deepen our connection with our existing audience while cultivating new strategies to broaden our reach within Detroit.

Koby Levin will be Outlier’s senior science reporter. Koby has spent the last five years covering education in Detroit for Chalkbeat. Koby will report science stories within our primary beats of housing, utilities and transportation — helping Detroiters connect to the wonder and joy that comes from understanding the city around us. Note: A grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative will fund this position for two years.

Carmella Denise Baldwin is ready to take on the challenge of being Outlier’s first social media producer. Carmella is a born-and-raised Detoiter returning home after spending the last decade traveling the world as a flight attendant. Carmella is a communications and multimedia specialist, and we’re eager to put our sparse social media activity in her capable hands, trusting that she can create opportunities to engage more meaningfully with Detroiters.
