🏢 The partial collapse of an Eastern Market building came as a shock to most of us, but was less surprising to some building tenants and people who are familiar with the century-old buildings in the area. Armond Harris, who owns Jabs Gym in the building located at 2501 Russell St., told BridgeDetroit he brought up structural issues to the landlord four months ago, and even spoke to the landlord again on Saturday before the collapse. A new report by Outlier, in collaboration with BridgeDetroit, found other buildings in the area with structural problems have resulted in two lawsuits and dozens of blight tickets. 🚧 Business owners and tenants from the collapsed building have launched crowdfunding campaigns to help cope with the loss of property and merchandise and support their employees. Jabs Gym, J’adore Detroit and Detroit Vs. Everybody have all begun GoFundMe pages aiming to raise $150,000. (BridgeDetroit, Outlier Media, Detroit Free Press, GoFundMe)
